Microsoft will retire Skype for consumers on May 5, 2025

Skype will no longer be available for consumer use starting May 5, 2025. - Reason for Retirement:
Microsoft is retiring Skype to focus on its Microsoft Teams platform, which it views as its modern communications and collaboration hub. - Migration to Teams:
Microsoft is encouraging Skype users to migrate to the free version of Microsoft Teams, which offers similar core features like chat and calls. - Transition Period:
During the transition period, Teams Free users can still call and chat with Skype users, and vice versa. - Paid Skype Features:
Microsoft will no longer offer paid Skype features to new customers, and existing paid users can continue to use their Skype Credits and subscriptions until the end of their next renewal period. - Skype Dial Pad:
The Skype Dial Pad will be available to remaining paid users from the Skype web portal and within Teams Free.
